Oldsmar Public Library Code of Conduct

This CODE OF CONDUCT is intended to encourage behavior that supports the Library’s mission to provide the best possible resources in a warm, welcoming environment. Behavior becomes unacceptable when it interferes with this mission, impinges on the rights of others, causes damage to buildings or equipment or causes injury to oneself or others. Those willing to modify unacceptable behavior are always welcome to stay. However, those unable to comply will be asked to leave. If necessary, the authorities will be called.

 

Examples of unacceptable Library behavior include, but are not limited to:

  • Violation of any federal, state, county, or city ordinance. Any suspected illegal activity on library property will be reported to the police immediately.
  • Behavior that is loud enough to be disruptive to other library users, including cell phone use, talking, crying, listening to loud music or other use of electronic devices.
  • Any behavior or language deemed unruly, abusive, or offensive by staff, including verbal or physical abuse, sexual harassment of staff or library users, or behavior of persons suspected to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • Children ages seven or younger must be accompanied and visually monitored by an adult at all times. Adults without children can not loiter in children's areas and will be asked to relocate to another area of the building.
  • Loitering on library property, sleeping, and refusal to leave at closing time or in an emergency.
  • Shirts and shoes are required in the library. Persons with poor bodily hygiene that is offensive enough to be considered a nuisance to others will be asked to leave. Bathing, shaving, laundering clothing, or any other misuse of restroom facilities is prohibited.
  • Bringing nonservice animals inside the library.
  • Inappropriate use of library computers (See computer use policy for details)
  • Abuse or vandalism of library equipment, materials, or property.
  • Selling, campaigning, interviewing, conducting surveys, or any other solicitation of information or money from library users.
